Puerto Iguazú is a small jungle-edge town whose only real job is the falls. The Argentine side is a full day of walking on metal catwalks; the Brazilian side is a half-day of wide panoramas. Two nights covers both without rushing, and the town itself is a 20-minute walk end to end.

Getting around

The town is walkable. Buses to the Argentine park entrance leave from the bus terminal roughly every 20 minutes and take about 30 minutes; the same road passes Güira Oga. Taxis run on fixed prices to both parks, so distance from your hotel matters little. Buses also cross to Foz do Iguaçu and to Ciudad del Este.

Watch out

Safety

The town is small and calm; the real risks are heat, mosquitoes, slippery catwalks at the falls and border paperwork. Use normal care at night away from the main avenues and keep valuables out of sight.
  • Border paperwork: keep the slips you get at immigration, and check your entry stamp before leaving the counter.
  • Park ticket booths close mid-afternoon (about 16:15) — arrive in the morning, not after lunch.
  • Cash for buses and small places; cards work in most restaurants and hotels.
  • Mosquitoes are serious here: repellent, long sleeves at dusk.
  • Hostel quality varies a lot — read recent reviews before booking a dorm.
