Krasnaya Polyana is a mountain settlement inside Sochi's Adler district, 40 km inland from the Black Sea and about 1 h from the airport. It hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics alpine cluster and now runs three lift resorts — Roza Khutor, Gazprom (Laura) and Mountain Carousel — plus a rail link to the coast. Winter is the peak season and prices follow; summer is quieter, cheaper and used for hiking and ridge views. Most travellers base here for skiing or ride up for a day from Sochi.

Getting around

Local buses and marshrutkas link the village, Esto-Sadok and the resort bases; the rail line has stations at Esto-Sadok and Roza Khutor. Taxis are the fast option between clusters. There are no car-rental desks in Krasnaya Polyana — rent at Sochi airport if you need a car.

Safety

Mountain resort, low street crime. The real risks are altitude and weather: closed lifts, icy paths and off-piste terrain without a guide. Carry your passport — this is a border region with permit checks.
  • Winter weekends and Russian holidays fill beds and lifts: book ahead and expect queues at the gondolas.
  • Lift tickets and hotel rates swing hard between winter and summer — confirm the season price before you commit.
