São Marcos
Half a day is enough: see the main square and Monte Calvário, then move on to Caxias do Sul or Bento Gonçalves for the night.
São Marcos is a small town in the Serra Gaúcha wine region, 30 km north of Caxias do Sul. Its main draw is Monte Calvário, an 830 m hill with a cross and views over the valley. The town centre has a few churches and a central square. Most travellers use it as a quick stop on the BR-116 between Caxias and Vacaria, not as a base.
