Tramore is County Waterford's second town and its seaside resort: a 5-km beach spit, a clifftop path to the Metal Man navigation tower, and a small town centre you can cross on foot in 15 minutes. It works as a 1–2 night add-on to Waterford or as a beach day on a south-east road trip. You need a car for the Copper Coast and the megalithic tombs.

Getting around

The town centre is walkable: Main Street, Queen's Street and the beach car park are within about 15 minutes of each other. Bus Éireann 360 runs from Waterford every 20 min, about 30 min. For Dunhill Castle, Ballynageeragh tomb and the Copper Coast you need a car or a taxi.

Watch out

Safety

Tramore is a small seaside town and most visits pass without incident. The real risks are cold water and sea conditions on the beach and wet, exposed cliff paths at the Metal Man: swim between flags, never alone, and check conditions before you go out (check).
  • The bay is shallow and the inlet is hazardous: no commercial boat trips from Tramore, go to Dunmore East or Dungarvan instead.
  • Dogs are banned on parts of the beach Jun–Aug 11:00–19:00; check the signs at the car park.
  • The 360 'bus station' is an open square on Lower Branch Road with no shelter or facilities.
  • Some caravan parks and seasonal cafés shut outside the summer season, and August race week fills beds: check dates and book ahead.
