Fenelon Falls
Give Fenelon Falls one full day and one night in summer: the falls, lock 34 and a boat or trail half-day. Seasonal businesses may cut hours or close outside summer — check each one.
Fenelon Falls is a village of about 1,800 people on the Trent-Severn Waterway, where a 23-foot falls drops between Cameron and Sturgeon lakes at lock 34. It is a summer town: the downtown strip, the boat traffic and the museum all run on the warm months, and it works as a base for the western Kawarthas rather than a destination on its own.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: the village is small enough to walk, but the lake parks, the rail trail heads and the museums sit along Highway 28 and County Road 121. Kawartha Lakes Taxi (705-928-1413) covers the village, but evening service is thin: book ahead if you need a ride after dinner.

Safety
- Blue-green algae can appear in these lakes in late summer and early fall: do not swim, drink or let pets into water with a bloom.
- Poison ivy is common on wooded trail edges.
- The Victoria Rail Trail bridge over the waterway swings open in summer: detour through downtown and along Highway 121.
- Many restaurants and shops cut hours or close entirely outside summer: check before you drive out.
