Nicholasville is a Bluegrass Region commuter and shopping town of about 28,000, 25 minutes south of Lexington on US-27. Its draw is narrow and specific: Camp Nelson National Monument, working horse farms with paid tours, and two Kentucky River nature preserves. There is no walkable sightseeing core, and a car is required for everything outside downtown Main Street. Most travellers see it as a half-day from Lexington or one night on a horse-country run.

A car is effectively required: sights are 5–15 km apart with no useful transit. US-27 is the main north-south artery to Lexington; KY-169 runs south to the Kentucky River. Rideshare exists but is thin outside Lexington hours.
