Montemorelos
Stay one night, not three: the church, the square and the museums fill a half day, and the citrus parks are the reason to stop.
Montemorelos is a small citrus town on the Rio Pilón in Nuevo León, on the MEX-85 highway between Monterrey and Ciudad Victoria. It is a Pueblos Mágicos town with a 17th-century church, a regional history museum and two animal parks nearby. Most travellers use it as a one-night break on the highway or a weekend from Monterrey, about 2 hours away.

Getting around
The centre is small and flat: the plaza, church, city hall and two museums are within a 15-minute walk. For Bioparque Estrella, Pueblo Salvaje or the orchards you need a car or a taxi; there is no useful local bus network for visitors. MEX-85 is the main highway north to Monterrey and south to Linares and Ciudad Victoria.

- Summer afternoons from April to June are hot; do the walking before noon.
- The animal parks are outside town with no public transport: arrange a car or taxi both ways.
- Some small hotels have no air conditioning and no card machine: ask before booking, and carry cash.
- Highway MEX-85 carries heavy truck traffic; drive it in daylight where you can.
