Largs is a small Clyde coast resort, an hour by train from Glasgow Central, known for the 1263 Battle of Largs, the Vikingar exhibition and the short ferry to Great Cumbrae. It is a half-day town with a full-day island attached, so most travellers use it as a day trip or a single overnight.

The town is small and walkable: station to ferry pier is about 200 m, and the promenade, Vikingar and the main eating places are all within 15 minutes on foot. Buses 901, 903 and 585 stop in town, including at the station and pier. Taxis are available but rarely needed.
