Okanagan Falls
Go for one night as a Skaha Lake stop between Penticton and Oliver: beach, ice cream, wineries. Skip as a base — no rail, thin bus, few beds.
Okanagan Falls is a village of about 2,200 people on the south shore of Skaha Lake, on Highway 97 between Penticton (about 15 min north) and Oliver (about 22 min south). The falls that gave it its name are under the lake, drowned when the dam went in. What is left is a beach, a small provincial park, two wineries and a lot of fruit stands. You come by car, you stay one night, you eat ice cream.

Getting around
The village is small enough to walk or cycle. BC Transit runs route 20 (Penticton–Okanagan Falls) and route 40 (Penticton–Osoyoos via Okanagan Falls and Oliver) Monday to Friday only — no weekend service, so a car is the practical answer. Highway 97 is the main road; Eastside Road along the east shore of Skaha Lake is the slower, prettier alternative from Penticton.
