Noto is one of the eight Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto, rebuilt on a new site after the 1693 earthquake. Almost everything worth seeing sits on one street, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, so the town is a half-day of walking plus a long evening. It works as a stop between Syracuse and Ragusa, or as a night out of Syracuse if you want the street without crowds.

Getting around
On foot. The historic centre is one street about 1 km long, flat and walkable end to end in 15 minutes. Buses and the train station sit outside the old town, so plan a 10–15 minute walk from either. A car is only useful for Noto Antica, the Villa Romana del Tellaro, Vendicari and the beaches.

- The train station is farther from the centre than the bus stop and is not always staffed; buying a return ticket there can be slow, so a bus is often easier.
- Some churches and palazzi are closed or under restoration at any given time; check locally before planning around one.
