On foot. The station is on the west side of the village, the pubs and beds are within 5–10 minutes, and the Pen-y-Ghent path starts from the village. Taxis are based in Settle, 6 miles south. Drivers park just south of the Crown Hotel, where there are public toilets.

A quiet village with no street crime to speak of. The real risks are the hills: wet rock, fast weather changes and no phone signal on the tops, so carry a map and tell someone your route.
  • No shop in the village: buy food in Settle or Skipton before you arrive.
  • Horton station has a ticket office but no machines, so collect online tickets only when it is open; no toilets or café.
  • Mobile data is patchy: 4G from EE only, no O2, Three or Vodafone signal (as of Sep 2025).
  • The B6479 and A65 jam on summer weekends; allow extra time if driving.
  • Hill weather changes fast: carry a map, waterproofs and a headtorch, and tell someone your route.
