Kildare is a small commuter town 50 km southwest of Dublin, known for St Brigid's Cathedral and the Irish National Stud. Trains from Dublin Heuston take 50 min, so it works as a one-night stop or a day trip between Dublin and the west. Sights are walkable; the Curragh plain and Newbridge sit a short hop east.

- The National Stud closes in winter (roughly Dec–Jan): check dates before you travel.
- Dublin Coach 300/M7 stops at Kildare retail village, not the town centre; the 726/N7 and GoAhead 126 serve Market Square.
- Race days at the Curragh fill local beds and taxis: book ahead and use the shuttle from Kildare station.
- Round tower access is by a small fee and steep internal ladders; not for everyone.
