Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte is Sri Lanka's legislative capital, on the eastern edge of Colombo. Parliament sits on an artificial island in Diyawanna Oya lake, a design meant to echo the 15th-century Kotte kingdom that once ruled from this area. Beyond the parliament grounds and a few colonial and Kotte-era ruins, it is a residential and government suburb with almost no visitor infrastructure of its own.

- Traffic on the Kotte–Rajagiriya–Colombo roads is slow at rush hour (roughly 7–9am and 4:30–7pm).
- Low-lying areas around Diyawanna Oya can flood in heavy monsoon downpours.
