Tagbilaran is Bohol's capital and its transport hub, but it is not where most travellers want to sleep. Panglao's airport (TAG) sits 20–30 minutes away, the fast-ferry pier links to Cebu, and the bus terminal feeds every Bohol town. Use the city for one night on arrival or departure, see the Sandugo site and the small museums, then base elsewhere on the island.

Getting around

Tricycles are the main way around the centre (short hops, a few pesos per person, more to the malls, pier or bus terminal). Jeepneys run fixed routes from the centre and Island City Mall. White taxis are few and mostly at the airport, pier and malls. The centre is walkable, but pavements are patchy.

Watch out

Safety

Tagbilaran is a relaxed, generally safe provincial capital; the real risks are petty theft in crowded markets, unlit streets after dark, and road traffic on the highway. Use normal city caution and keep valuables out of sight.
  • Few places open 24 hours and many shops close on Sunday; plan food and errands around that.
  • Agree the tricycle or taxi fare before you get in, especially for Panglao or the airport.
  • Departing ferry passengers pay a small terminal fee at the pier; some tickets already include it, so check before paying twice.
  • Sunday ferries to Cebu fill up: book ahead or use the Tubigon port instead.
  • Afternoon rain in the wet season can flood low streets; keep bags dry.
