Milltown Malbay is a small County Clare town of about 900 people, known for the Willie Clancy traditional music school each July and for Spanish Point, a surf beach 5 km west. There is no rail line and no taxi based in town, so a car or the Bus Éireann 333 is how you arrive. Most travellers use it as a quiet, cheaper base for the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren coast, or skip it outside festival week.

You need wheels. Town to Spanish Point beach is 5 km with no footpath the whole way, and there is no taxi based in Milltown (the nearest is in Lahinch). Bus Éireann 333 links Ennis, Ennistymon, Lahinch, Milltown, Spanish Point, Quilty, Doonbeg and Kilkee, but only a few times a day.
