TrentonTrenton, Ontario
Give Trenton one night, not three: the air force museum and the Trent riverfront fill a half-day, and Prince Edward County or Belleville is the real draw.
Trenton is the largest community in Quinte West, on the Bay of Quinte about two hours east of Toronto by car and on the VIA Rail line between Toronto and Kingston. It is home to Canada's largest air force base and the National Air Force Museum of Canada, and it sits at the western end of the Loyalist Parkway, the road into Prince Edward County. Most travellers use it as a stop on the Highway 401 corridor rather than a destination, and one night is enough unless you are here for the spring walleye derby or the waterway.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

Getting around
A car is the practical way to move around Quinte West; the sights are spread out and some parts of town are only served hourly by bus. Quinte Transit runs four local routes plus a link to Belleville, buses stop in the early evening and there is no Sunday service. County Transit on-demand routes reach as far as Picton. VIA Rail stops at Trenton Junction, about 6 km northwest of downtown, so arrange a taxi or pickup.

Watch out
Safety
- Trenton Junction station is outside town: book a taxi or ride before you arrive, especially at night.
- Local buses stop in the early evening and do not run on Sundays.
- The air force base is a working military site: the museum is open to visitors, the base itself is not.
- Winter driving on Highway 401 can turn bad fast with lake-effect snow and squalls.
