  • North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
  • North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
  • North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
  • Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
  • Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
  • Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville is a small suburb on Montréal's South Shore, 25 km from the city, built around one real draw: Parc national du Mont-Saint-Bruno. The village has a lake, a public market and a dense strip of restaurants, but the town is a half-day or full-day stop, not a place to base a Québec trip. Most travellers come for the park, ski hill or spa and return to Montréal the same evening.

Arrive & move

Airports are listed under At a glance; this is how to move once you are in

Getting around

The town is spread out and the park entrance is 3–4 km from the village: a car is the practical choice. Without one, exo commuter rail from Montréal's Gare Centrale reaches the Saint-Bruno station, then it is a long walk or a taxi to the park. Local buses run on the South Shore network but are slow for sightseeing.

See & do

Day-trips, door to door

Day-trips

Door-to-door, not ride time

Door to door: About 45–60 min by car; about 50 min by train

Car via Route 116 and the Jacques-Cartier bridge, or exo commuter train from Saint-Bruno station to Gare Centrale

The obvious pairing: sleep in Montréal, day-trip out here.

Longueuil

go

Door to door: About 20–25 min

Car via Route 116 west, or exo train to Longueuil–Saint-Hubert

Useful for the regional base and connections.

Boucherville

caution

Door to door: About 20 min

Car via Autoroute 20 and Route 132

Mostly residential and riverside parks; combine with Saint-Bruno only if you have a car.

Saint-Lambert

go

Door to door: About 25–30 min

Car via Route 116 and Taschereau Boulevard

Historic streets and riverfront; easy add-on to a Montréal day.

Brossard

skip

Door to door: About 20–25 min

Car via Autoroute 30 and Taschereau Boulevard

Suburban shopping and the REM line; nothing a visitor needs.

Eat & sleep

Which area to sleep in

Where to sleep

Areas, not hotels: pick the one that fits your arrival time and plans.

Village centre (around Lac du Village)

Walkable to restaurants, the market and the Old Presbytery; a handful of small inns and B&Bs only.

Boulevard Saint-Bruno / Promenades area

Highway-side chain hotels and the mall; car needed for everything else.

Longueuil or Montréal

Better value and more choice; reach Saint-Bruno by car or the exo commuter train.

Watch out

Safety

Very safe. The real risks are winter ice on trails and sidewalks, deer on the roads around the park at dusk, and heat on summer hikes: carry water and check the park map.
  • The park charges an entry fee and can hit capacity on fall weekends: arrive before 10:00.
  • Ski Saint-Bruno runs only when snow allows; check the snow report before driving out.
  • Most village restaurants close by 21:00–22:00; kitchens stop earlier on weeknights.
  • Winter sidewalks and park trails ice over: bring traction cleats.
