Bacolor is a small Pampanga town, once the provincial capital, that was half-buried by Mount Pinatubo lahar in the 1990s. Its two sunken churches are the reason to come. The sights sit within a 12-minute walk of each other downtown, and most travellers see it as a stop between San Fernando and Guagua.

Tricycles link the barangays and the highway; downtown is walkable. Don Ceferino Joven Street runs from the public market to Jose Abad Santos Avenue and takes about 12 minutes to walk end to end, passing the church.

Safety
- Bacolor is low-lying and floods in the rainy season; the Cabetican shrine area is worst hit.
- Jose Abad Santos Avenue bypasses downtown, so tricycles, not walking, connect the highway to the centre.
- The dike roads toward Minalin are narrow and have few safety barriers; avoid them after dark or in rain.
