ClemsonClemson, South Carolina
Go for one night on a football weekend or as a campus-and-garden stop off I-85; otherwise pass through in half a day.
Clemson is a college town of about 14,000 people in Pickens County, Upstate South Carolina, built around Clemson University and its 80,000-seat Memorial Stadium. Almost everything a visitor does sits within a 3 km band between downtown College Avenue and the campus core. Home football Saturdays from September to November fill every bed within 30 km, so book months ahead or avoid those weekends entirely.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
Clemson Area Transit (CAT) buses are fare-free and cover campus, downtown and the surrounding towns of Anderson, Central, Pendleton and Seneca — the simplest way to move without a car. Downtown street parking is free with a 1-hour limit during business hours; a city parking deck sits at Keith Street and College Avenue. A car helps for Lake Hartwell, the botanical garden and day trips.

Tiger Boulevard / US 76
Chain hotels and fast food on the highway strip; 5–10 min drive to campus, free parking.
Pendleton and Central
Smaller towns 10–15 min away on the free CAT bus; cheaper rooms on football weekends.
Seneca and Lake Hartwell
15–25 min west; lake lodges and cabins, best for boating trips rather than campus visits.
