Lido is the barrier island that shelters the Venice lagoon, a residential strip with a sandy Adriatic beach, Liberty-style villas and the Venice Film Festival in late August–early September. It is 10–15 minutes by vaporetto from Venice, so it works as a quieter, often cheaper bed base with sea air — but every Venice sight costs you a boat ride each way. Come for the beach and the calm, not for the monuments.

Vaporetto from Lido SME to Venice (San Zaccaria, San Marco area) takes about 10–15 min; ACTV travel cards cover it, but not the Alilaguna airport line. On the island, buses A (south), B (north), C and night bus N run from SME; most of the island is flat and bikeable. Walking from SME to the beach is about 10 min.

Watch out
Safety
- Some vaporetti and carriages are marked for residents only — check the sign before boarding.
- Most of the beach is run by private bathing establishments; free public beach is at the end of Gran Viale and gets crowded in July–August.
- Late August–early September the Film Festival fills hotels and raises prices; book weeks ahead.
- Acqua alta can flood the lowest waterfront stretches in autumn and winter; check tide forecasts.
- Vaporetto platforms are crowded at commuter rush hours (early morning, late afternoon).
