Give Windsor half a day plus one night if you want the pumpkin regatta or a Halifax break; otherwise pass through on the way to Wolfville.
Windsor is a small Annapolis Valley town of about 3,600 people, 45 minutes by car from Halifax on Highway 101. It has one real sight cluster (Fort Edward's blockhouse, two Victorian house museums), a claim to early hockey history, and a mid-October pumpkin regatta that fills the waterfront. Most travellers see it in three to four hours between Halifax and Wolfville; a night makes sense only for the festival, a brewery evening or a slow Valley drive.

Getting around
Windsor is walkable: sidewalks on most streets and 10–20 min between the waterfront, King Street and the house museums. There is no local public transit (Kings Transit no longer serves the town), so a car or taxi covers Fort Edward's hill and the highway motels.

Watch out
Safety
- No public transit in town: without a car, plan on walking or taxis.
- House museums run seasonal hours only (roughly Jun–early Oct) and Shand House is by appointment: check before you drive out.
- Fort Edward's blockhouse hours are summer-only and the site is on a hill with uneven ground.
- Winter driving on Highway 101 and Route 14 can be icy; Ski Martock traffic backs up on weekend mornings.
- Cell coverage is fine in town but patchy on the back roads toward the Avon River.
