- South America ↗Overnight buses are the norm in Argentina, Chile and Peru, but pick top-tier companies and keep valuables on your body; on-board thefts from overhead racks are the common loss.
- Uruguay ↗Check entry rules for your passport with Uruguay's Ministry of Foreign Affairs or a Uruguayan consulate; ferry passengers from Buenos Aires clear both countries' immigration at the terminal.

Fray Bentos is a small river port on the Uruguay River, known for the former Liebig and Anglo meat-packing plant that is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town itself is quiet and walkable, with a handful of museums and a waterfront rambla. Most travellers come for the industrial museum and stay one night, often as a break on the overland route between Uruguay and Argentina.
