Sindou

Half a day for the Pics de Sindou, then move on: the town itself has little else. Combine with Banfora or Orodara.

Sindou is a small town in the Black Volta Region, known almost entirely for the Pics de Sindou – a jagged sandstone formation that is the second-highest point in Burkina Faso. The peaks are a 10-minute walk from the centre and can be seen in a morning or afternoon. Most travellers stop here as a side trip from Banfora (40 km east) or en route to Orodara and Bobo-Dioulasso.

  • Africa ↗When a route touches a yellow-fever country — even a transit of 12 hours or more — keep the original yellow card (ICVP) in your hand luggage; health desks and airlines can refuse boarding or entry without it.
  • Africa ↗Nine African countries on this site have no trip line because governments advise against travel; several others have no-go regions. Read your government's advice for every country on the route before paying deposits.
  • West Africa ↗Carry an original yellow fever vaccination certificate on any West African trip: several countries on the coast road demand it of every arrival, and the rest demand it after you have passed through a neighbour.
  • West Africa ↗Cross land borders and drive between cities in daylight only; plan each crossing as a full travel day with cash for fees and passport copies for checkpoints.
  • Burkina Faso ↗Check your own government travel advice for Burkina Faso before any booking; advice depends on your passport and changes without notice.
  • Burkina Faso ↗Entry is controlled by the national authorities; land borders and some regions may be closed, and no independent tourist route is documented here.

Safety

Sindou is generally safe for daytime visits, but the security situation in the Black Volta Region can change. Check your embassy's travel advice and avoid travel after dark. Carry a photocopy of your passport and visa.
  • The Pics de Sindou trail is easy to follow, but a guide is customary and expects a tip (CFA 1,000–2,000).
  • No ATM in Sindou; bring enough CFA from Banfora or Bobo-Dioulasso.
  • Mobile network coverage is patchy; download maps offline.
  • Check your government travel advice before visiting the Black Volta Region.
