Rai Leh is a car-free limestone peninsula reachable only by boat, 10–30 min from Ao Nang, Ao Nammao or Krabi Town. Four areas sit within a 10-minute walk of each other: Phra Nang Beach, Rai Leh West, Rai Leh East and Ton Sai. It is the Andaman's climbing base, and the beaches are the reason most people come. Three nights covers climbing, a boat day and the viewpoint; two is enough if you only want the sand.

Getting around

Walking only: 5–10 min between the beaches and villages, longer on the rough jungle path to Ton Sai. No cars, and the paths are too bumpy for bicycles. Longtails link the beaches and Ao Nang when you do not want to walk.

Watch out

Safety

Very safe for a tourist peninsula; the real risks are the slippery viewpoint and lagoon path, boat traffic while swimming, monkey theft, and unverified climbing bolts. No cars, so no road risk.
  • Access is by boat only; from Ao Nang you often wade into the surf to board, so wear clothes you can get wet and pack light.
  • Longtails run on demand and leave when full: from Ao Nang the fare is about ฿100–150 (≈ US$4–5) per person with a minimum group, and the last boats go before dark.
  • The viewpoint-to-lagoon path is steep, rocky and slippery with hand ropes; sandals and heavy packs make it dangerous.
  • Monkeys on the trails snatch glasses, phones, wallets and food: do not feed or pet them.
  • Climbing bolts on seaside limestone can be corroded; use a guide or a shop that re-bolts, and check the gear you rent.
  • High season (Nov–Apr) roughly doubles room prices; book ahead for the West beach.
