Præstø
Go for one night if you have a car or can time the bus: a 14th-century market town, a manor park and a pottery, done in a day.
Præstø is a small old merchant town at the head of its own fjord on South Zealand, about 3,900 people. There is no railway: you arrive by bus or car. The draw is a compact main street, Nysø Manor park with Thorvaldsen's studio, Denmark's oldest pottery workshop, and fjord walks. One night is enough; two if you want kayaking or the labyrinth park.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Firm handshake and eye contact; first names at once; avoid: Titles and small talk that goes on too long
- Punctuality: Arrive on time for meetings and dinners; avoid: Being 15 minutes late without a message
- Home visit: Shoes off; bring flowers or wine; say 'tak for mad' after the meal; avoid: Leaving right after eating
- Conversation: Dry humour, directness and self-deprecation; avoid: Boasting — Janteloven frowns on it
- Queues: Take a number (kølapper) where there is a machine; avoid: Pushing to the counter
- Cycling: Signal stops and turns with your hand; keep right; avoid: Riding side by side in busy lanes
- Toasts: 'Skål' with eye contact before and after drinking; avoid: Looking away mid-toast
Scams and watch-outs
- No railway station: bus or car only, and buses are sparse.
- Several sights are summer-only: Nysø interior and Thorvaldsen's Museum open May–Aug.
- Some listed businesses and links are dated: check opening hours before travelling.
- Fjord water is shallow and cools fast; swimming is for summer only.
Very safe. The real issues are sparse buses, dark unlit roads outside town at night, and cold fjord water: plan the last bus and wear something visible after dusk.
