How to pick your dates, step by step
Start with what you want to do, not with the calendar. Cities — Kraków, Warsaw, Wrocław, Gdańsk — work from April to October and are at their best in May, June and September, when days are long and queues are shorter than in high summer. If the Baltic coast or Hel is the point, you need July or August; outside those months the sea is cold and the resorts half-closed.
Mountains split in two. The Tatras around Zakopane are a hiking destination from July to September and a ski destination from December to March; late spring and November are the awkward in-between. Zakopane is packed at weekends year-round, so midweek helps.
Then check the calendar for fixed dates. Poland's public holidays move crowds and close shops: Easter (Sunday and Monday), 1 and 3 May, Corpus Christi in June, 15 August, 1 and 11 November, and 24–26 December. Christmas Eve became a public holiday in 2025, so 24 December now closes shops, restaurants and museums too.
Finally, weigh price against daylight. January to March and November are the cheapest months and the emptiest, but you get short days and, in Kraków, smog on still days. December is mid-priced and busy in the market cities but dark by mid-afternoon. If your dates are flexible, use the month picker and compare your own weeks.

Notes and caveats
Weather in Poland varies more by region than the month alone suggests. Inland cities such as Kraków and Warsaw run hotter in July and colder in January than Gdańsk or Sopot, where the sea moderates temperatures and brings wind. The Tatras are cooler at altitude and can hold snow into late spring.
Summer heat comes with afternoon thunderstorms, and winter cold comes with short daylight: plan museum and indoor time for the late afternoon. Winter air quality in Kraków and other inland cities can be poor on still days, which matters if you have asthma or travel with children.
