The Plains are India's Hindi-speaking heartland: the Ganges plain, roughly 400,000 km², home to about half a billion people and the country's most famous monuments. Delhi is the air hub and the natural base; Agra is one night or a long day-trip; Varanasi is the second base. Everything else — Lucknow, Patna, Amritsar, Bodh Gaya — is a separate trip, not a stop on the way.
