This is Tanzania's hot, humid coast: Dar es Salaam is the port and flight hub, and the towns south of it — Bagamoyo, Kilwa, Lindi, Mtwara, Mikindani — are slow, low-key stops reached by road, ferry or short flight. Pemba Island sits offshore to the northeast and is its own trip. Pick one or two coast stops, not a full sweep: distances are long and the road south is slow.
