PauldingPaulding, Ohio
Skip as a base: Paulding is a 2–3 hour stop — courthouse square, a meal, the nature preserve — best folded into a Northwest Ohio drive.
Paulding is a village of about 3,600 people and the seat of Paulding County in Northwest Ohio, on US 127 and SR 111. It is a bedroom community with an 1880s courthouse on a traditional square, a handful of family restaurants and a county fair in summer. There is no airport, no train and no hotel strip: come by car, see the square, eat, walk the Black Swamp preserve, and move on. Most travellers pass through on the way to Fort Wayne, Toledo or Lima.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
A car is the only practical way in and around: US 127 runs north–south through the village and SR 111 crosses it. The square, courthouse and library are a 5-minute walk apart; the fairground and nature preserve need a short drive. No public bus, no train, no rideshare guarantee — plan your own wheels.

Watch out
Safety
- No scheduled bus or rail service: without a car you are stuck.
- Winter brings ice, drifting snow and county-road closures on US 127 and SR 111.
- Cell coverage is fine in the village but patchy on the back roads toward the preserve.
- Restaurants close early; the kitchen may shut well before the posted hour on weeknights.
