Pelister is North Macedonia's oldest national park (1948) and its second largest, on the Baba mountain massif above Bitola. Its signature tree is the five-needle Macedonian pine, molika (Pinus peuce), which grows on only a handful of Balkan mountains; the park also holds the two glacial lakes called Pelister's Eyes, brown bear and chamois country, and a small ski area at Kopanki. There is no public transport to the gate, so the trip is a taxi or your own car from Bitola, and the walking is what you come for.
