Pak Chong is the gateway town to Khao Yai National Park, less than 200 km from Bangkok. A night here lets you catch early park buses and avoid a rushed day trip. Trains from Bangkok take 3‑3.5 h; minivans from Nakhon Ratchasima take 1‑2 h. Most visitors spend a night and a half to explore the park and the town’s small market and cafés.

- Greeting: A wai (palms together, slight bow) to return a greeting; a smile and nod for shop staff; avoid: Waiing children or service staff first — it confuses; hugging strangers
