The Outer Banks is a 160 km line of barrier islands with one road, NC 12, and a milepost system instead of street addresses. Book one base for the week: Nags Head or Kill Devil Hills for the widest choice of beds and food, Duck or Corolla for quiet soundside rentals, Hatteras village for the lighthouse and ferries, Ocracoke for the end of the road. Moving hotels buys you nothing but packing.
