Know before you go

  • In the 1700s this shore was lined with warehouses, and the island earned the name "Golden Rock" for the goods that passed through.
  • The shore road today is flat and has almost no shade. Late afternoon has the best light and the coolest walk.
  • Some walls stand in the water and are eroded by storms. Look from the sand or the road, not from the wall tops.
  • Dive shops and small restaurants share the same stretch. Use them for shade and a toilet.
  • Taxi or walk down; the climb back to the Upper Town is steep.
