Oak Island
Oak Island, North Carolina
Stay 2–3 nights for beach days and the lighthouse; 1 night if you are only passing through to Southport or Wilmington.
Oak Island is a small beach town on the southern North Carolina coast, west of the Cape Fear River mouth. It is a car-and-cottage destination: long sand, a 1958 lighthouse at Caswell Beach, colonial ruins at Old Brunswick Town, and seafood shacks along Oak Island Drive. There is no airport and no train, so you drive in, and you drive or bike everywhere once you are here.
