Northwestern Colorado splits into three trips. The I-70 ski corridor (Vail, Breckenridge, Aspen) is resort country with resort prices. Denver to Grand Junction is about 4 hours by car; Denver to Steamboat Springs 3–4 hours in good winter conditions, longer over Rabbit Ears Pass in snow.
I-70 westbound is slow on weekend afternoons (roughly 2–6 pm) in both summer and winter; leave in the morning or after 5 pm.
Independence Pass between Leadville and Aspen is summer-only; the Glenwood Springs route works year-round.
