Northern Paraneña is Paraguay's river north: Concepción as the hub, the Paraguay river running past limestone caves at Vallemí, sandy river beaches on the Aquidabán, and a Brazilian-border town at Pedro Juan Caballero. Only Route 5 and the Vallemí road are paved; everything else is dirt and turns to mud in rain. Come for the river, the cargo ferry and the parks, not for polished tourism infrastructure.
