North Dakota is the least-visited state, and that is the point: the western Badlands, Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the Missouri River breaks are the reason to come. It is a driving state — I-94 runs Fargo–Bismarck–Dickinson, I-29 runs Fargo–Grand Forks north to Canada. Two to four nights west of Bismarck covers the main sights; add a night in Fargo if you arrive by train or fly in from Chicago.
