Rules in force · 7Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window…
- Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
- Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
- Central Europe ↗Six of the nine countries here — Austria, Switzerland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia — charge a time-based motorway vignette, mostly digital and linked to the number plate; buy it before the first motorway past the border, because cameras, not toll booths, do the checking.
- Central Europe ↗Temporary police checks at internal Schengen borders are common in this region in 2026 (Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovenia among others — check): keep your passport on you on every cross-border train, bus and road even though there is no fixed control post.
- Czech Republic ↗Czechia is in the EU and the Schengen area: check entry rules, the EU Entry/Exit System and any travel authorisation requirement for your passport on official sources.
- Czech Republic ↗The currency is the Czech koruna (CZK), not the euro: decline dynamic currency conversion and avoid street exchange booths.
- Czech Republic ↗Motorways need an electronic vignette bought before you drive on them.
North Bohemia is the Ústí nad Labem and Liberec regions, roughly one hour from Prague by train or motorway. It is not a city-break region: the draws are sandstone rock towns, volcanic hills, spa towns and a dense run of castles and chateaux, and they sit in the countryside between small towns. The region is spread out, so pick a base for the area you are covering — Liberec for the Jizera Mountains and Bohemian Paradise side, Ústí nad Labem or Litoměřice for the Elbe valley, Děčín and Terezín — rather than trying to cover the whole region from one town.

Day-trips door to door
| To | From | Door-to-door p50 | Last return | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bohemian Switzerland (Hřensko, Pravčická brána) | Děčín | 60 min | check | Bus from Děčín to Hřensko, then walk to the Pravčická brána arch; the gorge boats are a separate route from Hřensko and need their own time. Both get full in summer — go early and check the park site for current trail and boat status. |
| Bohemian Paradise (Turnov, Hrubá Skála) | Liberec | 60 min | check | Train or bus to Turnov, then walk or local bus; sandstone towers and castle ruins. |
| Ještěd | Liberec | 40 min | check | Bus or car plus a walk to the tower; the cable car's operation is uncertain — check before you rely on it. |
| Terezín | Litoměřice | 15 min | check | Local bus; allow half a day for the fortress and museum. |
| Panská Skála | Česká Lípa | 30 min | check | Basalt columns near Kamenický Šenov; combine with a Bohemian Switzerland day. |
Bags between cities
Luggage storage is common at Liberec and Ústí nad Labem stations and at hotels; there is no need to forward bags on a 2–3 night loop.
