Norrland covers about two thirds of Sweden's surface but holds roughly 12% of its people, so distances between stops run to tens of kilometres of forest. Treat it as a separate trip from Stockholm: pick one base — Kiruna/Abisko for auroras and midnight sun, Östersund or Åre for skiing, Umeå for a city stop — and reach it by flight or sleeper train rather than driving the whole way. Two to four nights per base is the minimum that justifies the travel.
