Neath is a small former iron and tinplate town on the South Wales Main Line, about 40 minutes from Cardiff and 20 from Swansea. It has no headline attraction: the castle is a fragment and the abbey is a ruin. What it does have is a station, cheap beds and the lower Vale of Neath on its doorstep, so most travellers use it as a bed for the waterfalls, Aberdulais and Swansea Bay rather than as a destination.
