Mpumalanga is the escarpment plus the southern Kruger. The escarpment towns (Graskop, Sabie, Hazyview) sit 30–90 minutes from the canyon viewpoints and 20–60 minutes from Kruger's southern gates, so one base covers both. Fly into Kruger Mpumalanga International (MQP) near Mbombela or drive the N4 from Pretoria; a rental car is effectively required. Give the province 3 nights minimum, 4 if you want a full Kruger day and a relaxed Panorama Route day.

- Lowveld (Mbombela, Hazyview, southern Kruger)
- Hot and humid in summer (Nov–Mar), with afternoon thunderstorms; winter (May–Aug) is dry, sunny and the best game-viewing window because the bush thins out. Nights can drop near freezing in June–July.
- Escarpment (Graskop, Sabie, Dullstroom, Lydenburg)
- Cooler and wetter than the lowveld; mist and rain are common in summer, and winter mornings are cold — bring a jacket even in the lowveld's warm season.
May to September is the driest and best window for both the escarpment and Kruger; October to March is green, hot and cheaper, with rain mostly in short afternoon bursts.
