Marburg
Give Marburg one full day and one night: climb to the castle and Oberstadt on foot, sleep in the upper town or by the station, and skip it as a base.
Marburg is a university town of about 73,000 people in the Lahn valley, an hour north of Frankfurt by IC train. The draw is a compact hilltop old town of 17th- and 18th-century Hessian houses, the Landgrafenschloss above it and the Elisabethkirche below. It is small, walkable and short on blockbuster sights, so it works as one night between Frankfurt and Kassel, not as a multi-day base.

Get around
Walk. The old town is on a hill with cobbles and long stair flights, so allow 15–20 min from the station to the Marktplatz. Two free lifts (one at Pilgrimstein 28) cut out the climb to the Oberstadt. Buses run from the station; a single is around €2 and a day ticket under €5 (2026 estimate, check RMV fares). Bus line 10 goes from the centre up to the castle forecourt. Bikes are fine along the Lahn but not in the cobbled upper town.
