Mandacaru
Skip as a base: Mandacaru is a 1-hour stop for the lighthouse view, then move on to Atins or Barreirinhas. Not worth a night.
Mandacaru is a tiny village on the edge of Lençóis Maranhenses, known for the Preguiças Lighthouse (163 steps, panoramic view of the dunes and river). There are no restaurants, limited accommodation and one daily boat connection. Most visitors come from Barreirinhas for a quick look and leave the same day.
