Lyons, Kansas
Skip unless you are a history buff or a skydiver: a 30-minute stop for the Coronado-Quivira Museum and Juan de Padilla Cross, or a full day if you jump.
Lyons is a small town on the old Santa Fe Trail in Central Kansas. Its main draws are the Coronado-Quivira Museum (Spanish colonial and Native American artifacts) and the Juan de Padilla Cross west of town. Since the 1980s it has also been a skydiving hub. Most travellers pass through in under an hour; a skydive adds half a day.
