Little Corn is a 3 km car-free island 70 km off Nicaragua's Caribbean coast, reached by a twice-daily panga from Big Corn Island. There is no road, no ATM and patchy power; you walk everywhere, dive or snorkel the reef, and eat lobster and coconut rundown. It suits slow travellers, not sightseers.

Getting around

On foot only: no motor vehicles and no roads. A paved walkway runs along the west coast near the pier; elsewhere it is narrow dirt paths that turn muddy after rain. You can walk the length of the island in under an hour. Bicycles exist but the paths are rough; ask your guesthouse.

Watch out

Safety

Relatively safe; violent incidents are rare but have happened. The real risks are muddy unlit paths after dark, coral and glass in the water, roaming dogs and having no cash when the ATM-less island runs dry.
  • No ATM on the island: bring enough cash in córdobas or US dollars.
  • Power can be limited or solar-based; charge devices when you can.
  • Paths are muddy and slippery after rain and unlit at night: carry a torch.
  • Coral and broken glass near the shore: wear water shoes, not bare feet.
  • Dogs roam the island; usually friendly but keep an eye on them.
  • The panga crossing can be rough: sit toward the back, take seasickness precautions.
