Lisse is a small bulb-farming town whose whole visitor economy runs on Keukenhof, open roughly nine weeks from late March to mid-May. Outside that window the gardens are shut and the town is a quiet base for the Bollenstreek. Almost everyone visits as a day trip from Leiden, Haarlem or Amsterdam; one night here buys you the 08:00 opening and empty paths.

Get around
The centre is small enough to walk, and Keukenhof is a 20–25 min walk from the middle of town. Bikes can be rented locally (van der Zon, Heereweg 448b) and are the best way to ride the bulb-field lanes. Buses 54 (Leiden), 58 (Schiphol) and 50/51 (Haarlem) serve the area in season; a car helps only outside the garden season.
