Lion's Head
Go for one night, two if you hike: base here for the Bruce Trail lookout, the harbour and dark-sky stargazing, and drive to Tobermory.
Lion's Head is a village of about 1,000 on the Bruce Peninsula, halfway between Owen Sound and Tobermory, on the Niagara Escarpment above Georgian Bay. It is small, walkable and free to park in, and it works as a quieter base for the peninsula's hiking, paddling and stargazing. One night covers the village and the lookout; two nights add Greig's Caves or a day in Tobermory. Summer weekends fill the marina parking and the beach.

About Lion's Head
Lion's Head is a small town in Bruce County, Ontario, roughly halfway up the Bruce Peninsula. It takes its name from a partly collapsed rock formation on the cliffs beside the town that resembles a lion. Winter population is around 1,000, but seasonal residents and visitors swell the numbers in summer. Georgian Bay lies alongside the town, and the surrounding area has southern Ontario's darkest night skies.
It is a busy spot for stargazing, hiking and water activities, and tourist numbers can strain parking, facilities and the beach, especially between the marina and the beach. Many people use the town as a base for the wider region, including Tobermory, which can be packed or sold out in peak season. The village itself is compact and walkable, with free street parking throughout.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

Getting around
The village is compact and walkable, and street parking is free. A car is needed for Greig's Caves, Devil's Monument, Sydney Bluffs and Tobermory. Parkbus runs sporadic summer weekend services from Toronto to Tobermory that stop in Lion's Head; Owen Sound, about 1 h south, has GOST buses from Guelph and car rentals, and a taxi to Lion's Head costs about $100.
