Lexington is a small Richland County village about 15 minutes southwest of Mansfield, and it works as a base for two things only: race weekends at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and summer fruit picking at The Blueberry Patch. There is no public transport, no hotel strip and no downtown to wander for an evening, so most travellers sleep in Mansfield or Ontario and drive in. Come for a race, a reservoir afternoon or the August Blueberry Festival, then leave.

Getting around

There is no public transport in Lexington: you need a car. Driving is easy outside race weekends, when traffic into Mid-Ohio backs up on Steam Corners Road and Route 314. The paved Richland B & O Bike Trail runs about 18 miles from Mansfield through Lexington to Butler if you want to ride instead.

Safety

Very low street crime; the real risks are rural driving — Amish buggies, blind hills on SR 314, deer at dusk — and summer heat at the track. Race weekends bring heavy traffic and drinking; do not drive after.

  • Route 314 carries Amish buggies and has blind hills; Ohio State Patrol patrols it heavily on race weekends.
  • Race weekends fill every bed within 30 minutes of the track — book months ahead.
