Las Vegas sits in the Mojave Desert at roughly 600 m, so the pattern is simple: two comfortable windows in spring and autumn, a hot summer, and a mild but chilly-at-night winter. The Strip is walkable in the good months; in July and August you plan around air conditioning and pools.
Spring arrives early. March and April give 20–30 °C days and cool evenings, and the desert parks around the city come into season. May is still workable but the heat starts to build. June through August is the hard part: the parent country data puts the low desert at 40–45 °C, and July–September monsoon storms can bring flash floods to canyons and closures on scenic roads.
September stays hot early in the month, then eases. October and November are the pick: warm days, cool nights, and the same window that makes the Southwest parks good. December through February is the cheapest stretch, with days around 15 °C and nights near freezing; snow on the Strip is rare but happens.
One local quirk: the pool season runs roughly March to October, and some resort pools close in winter. If a pool day matters, that rules out the cheapest months.

Crowds and prices
Las Vegas is a convention city, so crowds follow the calendar more than the seasons. A big trade show can fill 150,000 hotel rooms midweek in February, while a random Tuesday in July can feel empty indoors. Check the Las Vegas Convention Center calendar and the major event schedule before you fix dates.
Rates work the same way. Weekend nights (Friday and Saturday) cost far more than Sunday to Thursday, and the gap widens in summer. New Year's Eve, the Super Bowl, big fight weekends and the rodeo in December are the peak of the peak. If your dates are flexible, shifting a trip by two days can cut the room bill substantially (2026 estimate).
The city is also a base, not just a destination. Grand Canyon South Rim is about 4.5 hours by road, Zion about 2.5–3 hours, and both are best in the same spring and autumn windows. Death Valley, hotter than Las Vegas, is a winter trip.

Weather and what to pack
Summer is a dry heat, but 40 °C+ is dangerous for walking. Plan indoor stops between about 11am and 4pm, carry water, and use the free tram and air-conditioned walkways between resorts. Monsoon storms in July–September arrive fast and can flood streets and canyon roads.
Winter days are pleasant for walking, but nights drop near freezing and the wind between towers makes it feel colder. A jacket is worth packing even in April and October.
Spring wind is the other local feature: March and April can bring dusty gusts that cancel pool time and make the desert uncomfortable. Check the forecast the week you travel.
