Lăng Cô is a fishing village on a 15 km beach between the Hải Vân Pass and the lagoon, roughly halfway between Huế and Đà Nẵng. There is almost nothing to see in the town itself: people come for the sand, cheap seafood, the pass road and Bạch Mã National Park. It works as a one-night stop on the north–south route, not as a destination in its own right.

Getting around

Motorbike or bicycle is the practical way to move around the lagoon and reach the beach; taxis are few and the town is spread along Highway 1A. Rentals are arranged through guesthouses. For Bạch Mã or Ba Na Hills, hire a car with driver.

Safety

Low crime, but the real risks are the sea, the highway and cash: rip currents in the wet season, fast traffic on Highway 1A with no pavement, and only two ATMs that are often empty.
  • Only about two ATMs in town, often empty or out of service: bring cash from Đà Nẵng or Huế.
  • Power cuts hit the Highway 1A hotels; beach resorts usually have generators.
  • The beach has strong surf and rip currents in the wet season; swim near other people.
  • Highway 1A traffic is fast and there is no proper pavement in places.
  • Most market sellers speak Vietnamese only; point and use a calculator.
